Mental Toughness

Aspire are the UK Specialists in the delivery of the MTQ48 measure and the Mental Toughness Development Programme within Education and with young people and families. We are working in partnership with the developers of the Programme, AQR Ltd.
MTQ48 is a psychometric measure which we use for diagnostic purposes. The results of this inform our training and coaching and provide evidence of progress for our clients during and after our programmes.
The term ‘Mental Toughness’ describes the quality which determines to a great extent how we respond to stress, pressure and challenge, irrespective of circumstances. Research* has shown a clear, consistent and positive relationship between an individual’s ‘Mental Toughness’ and:
Performance
Positive behaviour
Wellbeing
Aspirations
In the context of schools, children with higher ‘Mental Toughness’ also:
Behave better
Are far less likely to report bullying
‘Mental Toughness’ is something which can be developed and improved. We at Aspire combine Mental Toughness Development with our tailored and effective programmes to achieve optimum results in creating peak performance and wellbeing.
*8 years of research led by Dr Peter Clough, Head of Psychology at the University of Hull. See www.aqr.co.uk.
